Professional Deck Career Structure
After 18 months of development work and industry consultations, the Society is pleased to announce a professional deck career structure for captains and crew of vessels under 500GT.
The structure permits crew to develop their career through following a gradual development path starting with smaller vessels under 24m LWL, working up through different sizes of vessels up to Master 350GT/OOW750GT, accumulating pro-rata their; sea-time, service on-board time and watchkeeping hours. Furthermore, the structure leads into a flag administration's STCW coded CoC, Master 500GT full foreign-going.
It encourages crew to undertake longer courses, at their own pace, for the next level of command and/or watch-keeping level over a much longer period of time than is customary. The Iymcs CoCs have been carefully configured to qualify, if required, for an official oral examination conducted by a Flag Administration, with the objective to gain an STCW Coded CoC issued by them.
Other points to the career structure to consider:
• The Iymcs Certificates of Competency (CoC) are suppported by IMO model courses enabling a flag administration to make a proper assessment of the
CoC for its manning scale of its vessel.
• The Iymcs certifications adhere as close as possible to the STCW Convention 1978/amend.2010 for Restricted Certificates of Competency (CoC) and
Certificates of Proficiency (CoP).
• It is a open structure that permits a crossover procedure, at different levels, for crew holding certifications issued by another entity.
• The Sea-Time requirement is configured to reach 18 months (540 days) at Master 500GT level.
• The Service On-Board requirement is configured to reach 36 months (1080 days) at Master 500GT level.
